Bali stands as a beacon of rich cultural and artistic heritage, shaped by its vibrant population and noble traditions.

Renowned for its resilience against colonial forces, the island embodies a paradise that fiercely preserves its unique identity within Indonesia.

Yet, a reputation—regardless of its accuracy—cannot alone uphold a culture; a strong foundation of support is essential.

As Bali transforms in the face of rapid tourism development, traditional institutions that have historically supported Balinese culture must adapt. Without innovative support, such as private and corporate patronage, the island risks losing its profound aesthetic values and cultural identity.

In response to this challenge, the Tandjung Sari Foundation was established in 1987 by the visionary Wawo-Runtu family, owners of the Tandjung Sari Hotel. The foundation is dedicated to the preservation and evolution of Balinese artistic works of exceptional quality.

The Foundation's Aims:

  • 01

Identify and celebrate outstanding artists who embody high artistic standards and their representative works.

  • 02

Document their artistry through various mediums, including video, audio recordings, photography, and written records.

The foundation’s initial programs have breathed new life into the performing arts, revitalizing local banjar activities —

the heart of community life, where children learn to dance and where the soulful sounds of gamelan resonate.

  •
By restoring the Banjar Sindhu gamelan group and providing traditional instruments for the rare Gamelan Semar Pegulingan, the foundation is reigniting a powerful musical legacy.
